Summit Firmware Update
Updating ExtremeXOS on Extreme Networks switches is a job that can easily be done online. One drawback remains: As with all OS updates a reboot is necessary at all.This can be scheduled so none 24x7 environments do not experience any problems.
I assume the switch already has an IP address, the right time set, a backed up configuration and that the switch is able to reach the TFTP- server.
Step by step:
1. Downloading and installing the ExtremeXOS- image into the unused partition (here secondary)
2. Downloading and installing of additional modules e.g. SSH
3. Choosing the boot image
4. Scheduling a reboot of the Switch/ Stack The following documentation targets a standalone switch but can be used with very small modifications for a stack too.
Step 1: Downloading and installing the ExtremeXOS- image into the unused partition
* X250e-24p.11 # download image 172.16.0.321 summitX-12.5.4.5.xos "VR-Default" secondary
Do you want to install image after downloading? (y - yes, n - no, <cr> - cancel) Yes

Image installed successfully
This image will be used only after rebooting the switch!
Step 2: Downloading and installing of additional modules e.g. SSH
* X250e-24p.7 # download image 172.16.0.47 summitX-12.5.4.5-ssh.xmod vr "VR-Default" secondary

* X250e-24p.15 # use image secondaryStep 4: Scheduling a reboot of the Switch/ Stack
X250e-24p.18 # reboot time 12 27 2011 21 35 00To check whether the updates made or scheduled were successful "show switch" is the right command:
Are you sure you want to set reboot time on the switch? (y/N) Yes
X250e-24p.20 # show switch
